Kil-O-Watt is a Toronto Funk act that has just released this very Funky original track “Funk Power”. It is so much fun to listen to!! Funking Right!
Kilowatt Band is a long-time Toronto Funk act that performs music from the seventies right up to the present. They play huge hits from bands like Earth, Wind and Fire, Confunkshun, Maceo Parker, and Barkays. They’ve played el Mocambo, The Hideout, and many other premier venues in Toronto.
Lead Singer and Founder of Kilowatt explains at this stage of his carrier he most wants a leader/ a group that can reach out to the young funkateers that are afraid to come out to bring funk fans together. Wherever they perform they want to bring the crowd to life and get them dancing.
The history of the Funk
The history of the funk came out of Ohio, from the Mississippi River where they used to have juke joints, where you would go in and have a drink, dance, and socialize. On one side of the river were the Blues, which is where funk derived from, and on the other side of the river were guys who wanted to immigrate out of the blues lifestyle and to just play happy music. The happy music is credited with turning out groups like Ohio Players, Barkays, Otis Redding, Sly, and the Family Stone, Stevie Wonder, etc. Another name for happy music is pop music, funk music.
